Portland Public Library Events for February 2016

Friday, February 12th      Lucky Library Bingo  1:00 to 2:00   Please join us at the Portland Public Library to play Bingo.  We will begin playing at 1:00 in the community room.  No cash prizes, but we give away food, books, gift cards and more

Thursday, February 18th  Book Club 11:30  Please join us if you love to read. Join us for some fun!   We will be reading “The Call of the Wild” by Jack London.   Call the library to reserve your copy.

 Friday, February 19th   Crochet Club 1:00 to 3:00  The place where, with a crochet hook and a single skein of yarn, both beginners and masters of the craft gather together for a wonderful afternoon of creativity on the third Friday of each month. From the first chain to the finishing touches, February’s program is designed to help you master all of the skills you’ll need to complete a beautiful Valentine’s scarf.  Please stop by or call the library at 615-325-2279 for more information and a list of the supplies you’ll need to bring.  We look forward to having you join us!

 Saturday, February 20th   Tea Time At the Library  11:00 to 1:00  We will celebrate the time honored tradition of afternoon tea on the third Saturday of each month.  A social event, the taking and offering of tea signifies friendship, a chance to visit with old friends and make new ones.  Designed to bring back those casual afternoon hours spent with friends, this program requires no invitation or reservation.  If you have the time and love tea, simply bring a batch of your favorite sweet or savory to share and “drop in “ for tea…we’ll take care of everything else.  Please stop by or call the library at 615-325-2279 for more information.  We look forward to having you join us!

 Thursday, February 4th  Card Games 4:00 to 5:00   Join us for an hour of card games!  We will be playing card games such as Cheat, Spoons, Exploding Kittens, We Didn’t Playtest This at All, and Poo:  The Card Game.  It will be a lot of fun!

 Thursday,  February 11th Charades and Pictionary  4:00 to 5:00  Join us as we play a Jimmy Fallon style of Charades and Pictionary!  Teens will break into two teams, and those teams will go against each other in a friendly competition.  It will be a blast!

 Thursday, February 18th  Mini Pie Bar   4:00 to 5:00   We will provide the ingredients and you make (and eat) the pies!

 Thursday,  February 25th Pixel Art   4:00 to 5:30  Using plastic perler beads, create any character or design you can think of.  This event runs from 4 to 5:30.



 Pre School Activities (ages 3 to 5)

Every Thursday in February      ABC Club              10:30  ABC club is a program for 3-5 year olds teaching writing and recognition of letters, numbers, and shapes.  This preschool program is led by Shana Blankenship. 

Wednesday, February 10th      10:30  Valentine’s Day.  Stories about love & valentines and then make a valentine.

Wednesday, February 17th  10:30   Ulysses & the Trojan Horse, and other “tricky” stories, plus music and fun.

Wednesday, February 24th      10:30   Aesop’s Fables.  Come hear several of these stories with a moral.  A little drama, a little song, a lot of fun.

Wednesday, February 13th     3:30  Valentine’s Day and the story of Cupid.  Then make valentines.

Wednesday, February 20th      3:30   Ulysses and the Trojan Horse.  Hear the story, then tricks, pranks, and jokes.

Citizens Awareness Group for Portland, Tennessee
Established in November of 2012  
The Citizens Awareness Group is an organization of everyday citizens of the Portland, Tennessee, area. The CAG considers their group a place where residents can voice their concerns, wishes, and desires in regards to issues within our city. CAG's goal is to be helpful to the community, and not a thorn in their side, by building a bond with the City's governing body and working as a team to help resolve issues and build better community relations. The Citizens Awareness Group is currently established as a Facebook group and can be followed at   All you have to do is click on "Like this page," and whenever CAG has a status update, you will see it in your status feeds. From there, you can read, communicate, and follow the activity. [Note: the CAG is not run by, nor associated with, this website.]
