Portland Craft Show and Sale

November 12, 2016 
The 43rd Annual Portland Harvest Craft Show and Sale will be held on November 12, 2016 from 9am – 4pm at Richland Park Gym. This show is open to vendors who have handmade items or crafts for sale.   If you need vendor information,you may contact the Portland Parks Dept. at 615-325-6464 or email us at tgroves@cityofportlandtn.gov.  We will be glad to send you an application.  We have indoor and outdoor booths available.  We also invite food vendors to participate.   

 

 


Craft Sale - First Baptist Church
November 4-5, 2016
We are excited to announce the first ever Women on Mission sponsored craft show "A Portland Country Christmas" held at First Baptist Church, Portland. It will be held:
Friday, November 4 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Saturday, November 5 from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Friday, September 2nd    Game Day 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Remember how much fun it was to gather with friends around the table to play a game?  Then the library is the place to be on the first Friday of the month.  We have the games set up, the refreshments ready and can’t wait for you to join us as we reconnect with old friends and make new friends as we play games together.  

 

Friday, September 9th    Lucky Library Bingo 1:00 p.m.  We will begin playing at 1:00 in the community room.  No cash prizes but we give away food, books, gift cards and more! 

 

Thursday, September 15th    Book Club 11:30 a.m.   We will have a guest speaker this month to share with the book club.  Debra J. Thornton is a writer/director who is from Franklin, Kentucky.  She had her first stage experience playing Emily Webb in Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” at the Goodnight Theater in Franklin.  After graduating from the University of Kentucky, Ms. Thornton moved to Los Angeles where she pursued acting.  In order to sharpen her skills and secure work, she set out to write parts in which she would act.  We would love for you to join us as we listen to Ms. Thornton share her exciting experiences through her career thus far. 

 

Friday, September 16th     Crochet Club   1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.    Crochet Club – the place where, with a crochet hook and a single skein of yarn, both beginners and masters of the craft gather together for a wonderful afternoon of creativity on the third Friday of each month. Club members are currently working on an Heirloom Afghan project designed for both beginners and experienced crocheters to master the craft one stitch and one square at a time. Club members who have begun their Heritage Afghan are encouraged to bring the squares they have finished. Club members who have not begun the project and those attending for the first time will need to bring one skein of yarn and a size H Crochet hook; the pattern book will be provided by the club. Saturday, September 17th    Tea Time at the Library  11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.   This is a social event, as the taking and offering of tea signifies friendship and a chance to visit with old friends and make new ones.  This program requires no invitation or reservation.  Simply bring a batch of your favorite sweet or savory to share and “drop in” for tea.  We will take care of everything else.

Tuesday, September 6th    Middle School Program   Young people 6th through 8th grade are welcome to attend.

 

4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Marshmallow Animals   Using marshmallows and toothpicks, we will construct various animals.  Don’t want to make an animal?  Feel free to use your creativity to construct something else.

Thursday, September 1st   Mod Podge Collage Letters  4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Come create decorations for your room or locker.  We will be covering cardboard letters with paper from old books and comics.  All supplies are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own paper to cut up.

 

Thursday, September 8th   Card Games 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Join us for an hour of card games!  Teens will be able to choose from a wide variety of card games like Spoons, Exploding Kittens, We Didn’t Playtest This at All, and more. 

 

Thursday, September 15th   Superfight:  The Card Game 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.    Superfight is a game of absurd arguments.  Using a deck of cards, we will create ridiculous characters and argue over who would win in a battle.

 

Thursday,  September 22nd   Perler Beads 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Using tiny beads, teens will create works of art.  Create your own pattern or copy one already made.  This activity is a fun, yet easy, art project.

 

Thursday, September 29th  Movie Screening:  The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Come enjoy a movie with friends!  We will be serving popcorn and drinks.  This movie is rated PG.

Citizens Awareness Group for Portland, Tennessee
Established in November of 2012  
The Citizens Awareness Group is an organization of everyday citizens of the Portland, Tennessee, area. The CAG considers their group a place where residents can voice their concerns, wishes, and desires in regards to issues within our city. CAG's goal is to be helpful to the community, and not a thorn in their side, by building a bond with the City's governing body and working as a team to help resolve issues and build better community relations.
